| AUBREY BEARDSLEY AUBREY BEARDSLEY (1872-98) A leading figure in the fin-de-siecle, Beardsley was an English illustrator, famed for his masterly use of black and white to produce highly ornamental and rhythmic drawings printed in publications worldwide. He famously drew for Alexander Pope's Rape of the Lock (1896) and much of his work was viewed as pornographic. He suffered with ill health and died young, but his output was impressive. |
