| AUGUSTUS JOHN (1878-1961) A British painter and graphic artist, John studied at the Slade School, but it was only after a severe head injury that the artist became the dramatic artist he is now known as. John grew a beard and became the epitome of a bohemian artist, living a nomadic life spent in independence to the art scene of the day. John painted sweet little landscapes, but is best known for his society paintings. His individual style bears resemblance to French Symbolist painting. |
