| CHARLES RENNIE MACKINTOSH (1868-1928) Mackintosh was a leader of the Glasgow School of Art Nouveau, and he is perhaps best known for the beautiful furniture he designed with his wife, Margaret Macdonald (1865-1933). Mackintosh became focused on the role of function in architecture, and his interior decoration is spectacularly expressed in the four tea-rooms of Glasgow belonging to Miss Catherine Cranston, where Mackintosh furniture sits among the equipment that he personally designed, all with the calligraphic qualities of the Art Nouveau style for which he is loved, and much imitated. |
