| KEITH HARING (1958-1990) Though he trained formally as an artist, Haring turned his back on traditional techniques, and became affiliated, along with Basquiat, with graffiti art. Living and working in New York, the American he was inspired by the manic, never-sleeping city, and his art captures the energy of the time. The colourful dancing people of his almost symbolic paintings are squeezed into circles and squares, like jelly-babies squashed into a jar. Haring drew for children’s books, and continued to paint perhaps where he oughtn’t, in public spaces and on the body. |
