| LOUISE BOURGEOIS LOUISE BOURGEOIS (1911-) The charismatic French-American sculptor is truly obsessed by her work, claiming that the finished product just becomes art, without planning. She painted and engraved until the Forties when she became more interested in the three-dimensions of sculpture. Working from her large New York house, where she settled with her American art historian husband, Robert Goldwater in 1938, Bourgeois creates abstract pieces from a wide range of materials including stone, metal and latex. She likes to think of herself as an inventor, because she is concerned with pushing the boundaries of what one perceives 'art' to be. |
