Cézanne experienced indifference to his work until the final decade of his life. He often painted figures from memory but from about 1870, he started painting directly from nature and his work became a little more disciplined; he was not especially concerned with the effects of light, but more with the structure and forms of nature, and. He is credited with paving the way for cubism and abstraction. |
