| PAUL GAUGUIN (1848-1903) In 1848, Gauguin was born into a bourgeois family, Throughout Paul Gauguin’s young life, which took into the Navy and around the globe, he realised his passion for, and considerable talent in, art and left his family and job as a successful stockbroker for Tahiti. He was inspired by the rich, exotic colours and people, and created beautifully sensitive paintings such as ‘Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going?’ A close friend of van Gogh, Gauguin is now regarded as one of the most important painters of his generation. |
