| PIERRE BONNARD PIERRE BONNARD (1867-1947) The French painter and graphic artist began his training in 1888 at the Academie Julian and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Bonnard life was as quiet and peaceful as the serene scenes he painted, in rich colours and on large scales. He is probably best known for the paintings of his wife in her bath, and also flowers and landscapes. An Impressionist, Bonnard was invited to become a member of the Royal Academy in London in 1940, and in 1966 the Academy organised the largest and most representative exhibition of his work ever seen. |
