| WASSILY KANDINSKY (1866-1944) In 1896, the Russian-born painter and art commentator moved to Munich to study painting. Six years later he joined the Berlin Sezession, becoming a key figure in the Art Nouveau movement, and went on to travel across Western Europe and Africa. Kandinsky fused Art Nouveau with Russian folk art with Fauve-like colours, creating busy riots of shapes and strokes and stripes and splashes. Kandinsky’s writing was also well received. The artist held German and French citizenship |
